NIH Building 10, E-Wing Renovation

LRS is the prime contractor providing Construction Quality Management services for the Building 10, E-Wing Renovation on the Bethesda, MD campus of the National Institutes of Health. Building 10 or the Clinical Center Complex, is the world's largest clinical research hospital. The renovation of the east Central Wing, referred to as the E-Wing, is the final phase of the incremental renovation and modernization of the original Building 10. The infrastructure in this portion of the building is undersized, had exceeded its useful life, and must be replaced with modern state-of-the-art equipment to provide sufficient and reliable support for research.

Construction activities include renovation of former patient care and laboratory areas on 13-floors into highly specialized laboratories (including a cGMP laboratory), a vivarium, and teaching facilities. The project includes new mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, new supply/exhaust fans and mechanical equipment rooms, new vertical building and laboratory service distribution risers, new fire protection and addressable fire alarm systems, and fully automated building controls and specialized laboratory equipment controls and monitoring systems.

LRS is providing the following services to NIH in support of this project: Construction Management, Mechanical Inspection, Electrical Inspection, General Inspection, Architectural Inspection, Cost Estimating, Scheduling, Claims Support, Project Management Information System Administration, and General Construction Administration Support.

Project Size: 250,000 SF

Construction Value: $201M
