Replace Incoming Service Switchgear and Upgrade Loop Distribution, White River Junction VAMC

LRS provided A/E design services to include schematic design, design development, construction documents, cost estimates, construction period services, site visits, and Commissioning to completely replace and upgrade the 12.5 KV Main Switchgear for the White River Junction VA Medical Center in Vermont. The project also brought one critical facility outside the existing switchgear loop into the new distribution loop. The existing switchgear was left open to the elements, which led to accelerated deterioration. In order to ensure the new system was protected, the LRS design included a new conditioned building to house the equipment and allow adequate access for VA personnel to access, operate and maintain the switchgear, controls, and metering.

This design project required the new switchgear system to be installed and power transferred with minimal interruption of service to the medical campus. Due to this, LRS phased the project to allow construction of the new switchgear with a minimum switchover period during non-critical hospital operations. The design also accounted for future medical center needs and included the ability to provide a second future utility campus feed to accommodate anticipated campus growth. All work done conformed to VA design guides and utilized VA construction specifications.
